On the one hand I realized there were things I needed to change--my habit of having wine with dinner; my volunteer job, which exposed me to tons of second-hand smoke. On the other hand, there was nothing I could do to guarantee a healthy baby. I was going to need to let go and trust, which I had a sense would make labor easier anyway. Reflecting on the Serenity Prayer helped me relax so that when my daughter arrived (two and a half weeks after her due date!), I was ready.

The Serenity Prayer has brought comfort and perspective to millions of people around the world. For some it is a bedrock of their recovery program. For others it just provides a needed reminder when the car gets a flat tire or the baby won’t nap.
